Kansas City, KS - I love fall. The crisp, cool air, the falling leaves, pumpkin everything! One of my favorite fall activities is going apple-picking at a local orchard. My spouse and I have done this nearly every year since we first started dating.
The last few years, we would go in early September. That was when it just opened and there were plenty of apples to pick. But... it's always so HOT! Last year, we were there for less than 30 minutes. We quickly picked some apples, snapped a few picks, then high-tailed it toward the air-conditioned car.
This year we opted to go later, in October. The weather was definitely cooler, but many of the trees were sparse. We had to HUNT to find a decent apple. We actually managed to find a few good, big granny smith apples!
We always have a good time, especially since we can make lots of goodies with these applies (mainly apple crisp with extra topping;). Oh, and if you go to Cider Hill Family Orchard, make sure to crap some caramels. I look forward to them every year!
